Hello everyone, my name is Chris Torres. I’m entering my final year at the U of M for Mechanical Engineering.
I’ve always had a passion for finding albums, singles, and release dates before anyone else. Now, with Studiiyo23, I can bring that to you. I’m going to be covering the local music scene with the help of my friend Moh and the rest of the crew at Studiiyo23. I’ve been a big hip hop fan for a while now and I’m excited to dive into the local scene. I plan to cover other genres as well, whatever is fresh. I’ll also hopefully be able to bring concert reviews and interviews with local artists to you.
Don’t ask me where I’m from unless you have time for a story. I’ve lived in the Chicago suburbs, Worcester MA, Madison WI, York ME, (I know right? Who the hell is from Maine?) and now I’m living in Minneapolis. Maine was my favorite because I lived on the coast. It turned me into a huge beach bum, so if you have any beachy tunes, send ’em my way!
My favorite rapper right now is J. Cole. I’ve seen him live twice. If you have a chance to see him, do it. He’s an incredible live performer. My favorite album of all time is Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. The Die still gives me chills. Locally, I’ve been vibing to Greg Grease, Allan Kingdom, Tek, Metasota, Grrrl Prty, Axel Foley, and Muja Messiah to name a few. I’m also a huge Rhymesayers fan. I’m still really digging into the local scene and getting a feel for who’s doing what. If you’ve got something new, let me know.
I love the beach vibe like Kenny Chesney, Cayucas, and The Magic City Hippies. I love grunge, punk, and garage rock like Green Day, (yea yea, go ahead and pick on me) Rise Against, JEFF The Brotherhood, and Bully, the local favorite. Alt-rock is exploding all over the world right now. I love seeing what comes out next, and Minnesota has no shortage of alt bands. Hippo Campus immediately comes to mind; they’re going nowhere but up. There’s too much music to talk about in a bio, so keep coming back and I’ll let you know what’s hot.
If you have anything to ask me, any music you think I need to hear, or just wanna see what’s up, hit me up on twitter @ttoorreezz or soundcloud under the same name. You can always email Studiiyo23 to get a hold of me as well. Thanks Twin Cities, I hope this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
